Apply in whichever county is easiest for you — Washington, Multnomah, Clackamas, any of Oregon’s 36 — and your license is valid statewide for 60 days. Step One: The License

How to Get a Washington County Marriage License

  • Where: Washington County Recording Office, 155 N First Avenue, Room 130, Hillsboro, OR 97124. Start your application online at the county’s online marriage application system, then both of you visit the office together to pay and finish.
  • Fee: $85 as of July 1, 2026 (previously $60). Cash, check, money order, and debit/credit accepted (cards add a small processing fee). Fees can change — confirm on the county clerk’s page.
  • The 3-day wait: your license becomes effective three days after you apply. Ceremony sooner than that? The county will waive the wait for an extra $5.
  • Valid for 60 days from the effective date, anywhere in the State of Oregon.
  • You’ll need: valid photo ID, your birthplaces and parents’ details, and the date any prior marriage ended. Both of you must be 18 or older.
  • Two witnesses are required at the ceremony — bring your own at no cost, or add ours for $25 each.
  • After the ceremony: the signed license must be returned to the county within five business days. We handle that for you — priority mailing is included in every package.
